Howlite is a boron mineral found in evaporite deposits. It was discovered near Windsor, Nova Scotia in 1868 by Henry How, hence its name. Howlite has a very porous structure and can be dyed to imitate other minerals, particularly turquoise, due to the similar veining in the stone. Howlite is believed to be a calming stone that physically relaxes the body and relieves muscle tension. It is commonly used to reduce anxiety, tension, and stress, and is said to help eliminate pain and anger.
